Rev. Doug Long, Senior Minister

Doug began laying the groundwork for UPUCC (formerly North Raleigh United Church) in the fall of 1998. He has two grown children, Jess and Jordan. [Jordan is a graduate of UNC-G with a degree in Theater and now lives back in Raleigh. He continues to pursue Community Theater whenever possible. Jess (L’Roe) and her husband, Andrew, are both grads of UNC and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They now live in Vermont where Jess teaches at Middlebury College.]
In November 2012 Doug married Janice Odom. Janice is the Director of The Caldwell Fellows at NCSU, where she is best known as “Dr. O.” (Doug and Janice met several hundred years ago in Seminary and feel incredibly lucky to have found each other in new ways in their 'advanced' age!) Janice also has a grown son, Wren. Wren received his degree from Appalachian State where he majored in Appropriate Technology. He is presently appropriating that by teaching skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado!
Doug was born in Raleigh and has pastored in Burlington, NC, and Oberlin, Ohio. He has served on numerous committees and boards of the Southern and Ohio Conferences of the United Church of Christ. In addition, Doug loves most everything about the out-of-doors.

Rev. Tyler Ung, Minister with children & Youth

Tyler is from Pennsylvania and grew up in the suburbs north of Pittsburgh. They received their BA in Congregational Ministry in 2014, and their MDiv from Yale Divinity School in 2017. Tyler's interests are in theology and ethics, spiritual development, and pastoral care.
Tyler is new to the Durham area, moving from Charleston where they completed a chaplaincy residency and served as the Associate Minister at Circular Congregational Church. In addition to their role as Minister with Youth, Tyler works at Duke Divinity School as the Staff Specialist for the Office of the Chaplain.
In their free time, you can find Tyler camping with their partner (Shannon), napping with their dog (Hermes) or cat (Claudette), reading science fiction, or playing disc golf.

David Wilson, director of music

David Wilson, a native of Raleigh, began his piano studies at age 10, following in the footsteps of his mother and sister. These lessons, as well as his music experiences in public school, set him on a musical path that would eventually lead to Appalachian State University, where he graduated with a B.M. in Music Education, with concentrations in both Piano and Voice. Since his graduation in 2014 he has maintained a close working relationship with the teachers and students of Wake County, and frequently collaborates with high schools on musicals, concerts and other educational experiences. He has a passion for empowering growing musicians through the acquisition of music literacy skills and, as a pianist, serving as a knowledgeable support in their musical endeavors. David joined the staff of UPUCC in September of 2016 and became Director of Music in August, 2022.

Peg Arcari, Church Administrator

Peg grew up in the Cincinnati area. A graduate of both St. Olaf College (B.A. in Child Development) and Ohio University (Masters of Education in Community Counseling), Peg enjoyed her career as a Licensed Professional Counselor following eighteen years in an Ohio UCC church as Outreach Coordinator, Christian Education Director, and Interim Authorized Minister. Following her retirement from serving as UPUCC Children's Director, Peg continues to coordinate communication, publications, volunteers and other administrative duties. Peg and husband Michael have four children and nine grandchildren.

Vickie Teal, Financial Administrator

Vickie grew up in Raleigh. She holds degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science having attended both UNC-Chapel Hill and NCSU. She also earned an MBA from Meredith College. Vickie began her career as a member of the team that opened the Wake County Alcohol and Drug Education Traffic School and then spent almost 30 years working in various IT roles in the Power Management industry. In her role as Financial Administrator, Vickie performs the accounting, payroll and financial reporting activities for UPUCC.
Vickie has one daughter, one grandson and two rescued cats.

Margo looks forward to spending Sunday mornings with your little ones. She has many years of experience working with preschool children. Margo is the current Director at Children's Campus at Southpoint in Durham. “If there is anything I can do to make your child's stay in the nursery more comfortable please feel free to let me know.”
