Minister

Doug Long, Minister

doug.jpgDoug and his wife, Denise (Denise is also an ordained UCC minister) began laying the groundwork for UPUCC (formerly North Raleigh United Church ) in the fall of 1998. They have two “semi-grown” children, Jessica and Jordan, who return home often to drop off furniture, take furniture and grab whatever food supplies look enticing in the pantry. The family also includes two well-loved dogs, Sassy and Jonah. Denise is currently ‘on loan’ to Binkley Church in Chapel Hill as their Interim Minister. (See http://www.binkleychurch.org/)

Doug was born in Raleigh, raised a Southern Baptist and graduated from Wake Forest University in 1979 and from Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1984. He received ministerial standing in the UCC in 1985. Since that time he has served pastorates in Burlington, NC, and Oberlin, Ohio. In 1990, Denise, Doug, Jessica and Jordan spent a year with Habitat for Humanity in rural Georgia and as International Partners in Mexico. Doug loves most everything about the out of doors and has served on numerous committees and boards of the Southern and Ohio Conferences of the United Church of Christ.
