Marriage Amendment Sunday
We will bring particular focus to ways we can help defeat the discriminatory amendment on the upcoming NC ballot. Jimmy Creech will be preaching, lunch is provided by the Fellowship Committee (donations accepted). Following worship the Triangle Gay Men’s Chorus will sing as part of an educational, informative presentation by the Statewide Coalition to help defeat this amendment. We are providing lunch and childcare (young children in the nursery and older children will watch a video). We are shooting for 100% attendance from UPUCCers. (In fact, we are suggesting you bring a doctor’s excuse, or at least a hall pass, if you can’t make it!) We promise to be done before 2 p.m.!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunday Evening Fellowship/Study Continues: Saving Jesus Redux ... a revision of Living the Question’s DVD-based small group exploration of a credible Jesus for the third millennium. New contributors Brian McLaren, Diana Butler Bass, and Robin Meyers join Marcus Borg, Walter Brueggemann, John Dominic Crossan, Matthew Fox, Amy-Jill Levine, and a host of others for a conversation around the relevance of Jesus for today. Facilitated by Doug Long, the series continues every Sunday evening through March 18. We will meet in the church library for a 6 p.m. potluck with 30 minute video beginning at 6:30. Discussion follows. Done by 8:00 p.m. Come to eat or not, come to one or all. (For those who aren’t familiar with the church library, enter though the single front door to the right of the main center doors and you’ll BE there!)

Break out the beads and don the purple and gold party hats! The UPUCC Second Annual Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party and Talent Show is coming again! On Tuesday, February 21, your Fellowship Committee will host an event featuring: Jambalaya, Shrimp Etouffee, Red Beans and Rice, and Kathryn’s Famous Whole Wheat Pancakes (loved by children of ALL ages!) Dinner starts early, at 5:30 (it’s a “school night”) followed by the Talent Show. All talents and all ages welcomed and celebrated! Look for the sign-up sheets after Worship and/or talk to Jimmy Gibbs (aka “MC Jimmy G”) or TJ Price-O’Neil.

Coming in Lent!! Urban Ministries–40 Items for 40 Days. Last year in association with the Lenten season, FIA challenged UPUCC covenant partners and friends to bring in 40 food items for the Urban Ministries Food Pantry, as a reflection of the sacrifice Jesus made during his 40-day fast in the desert. In 2012, FIA encourages all UPUCCers to challenge themselves to once again bring in 40 items throughout the Lenten season! Suggestions for items include the following: canned meats (tuna, chicken), canned vegetables, canned meals (ravioli, spaghetti), peanut butter, jelly, pasta, boxed milk, canned fruits, canned soups, dried beans, and juice boxes.

Concert!!! An Evening with Jesse Winchester. March 23 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets (available soon): $20 advance purchase, $25 day of the show. General Admission: Doors to open at 7:30, (no opener). Click here to order tickets and learn more about Jesse.
